Chad Ertel threw eight strong innings as the Maple Leafs downed the visiting Baycats 5-2 to take a commanding 3-0 lead in the semi-final series. He gave up one earned run on six hits while striking out seven. Jon Lockwood struck out the side in the ninth to earn the save. Damon Topolie�s RBI-double in the first inning put Toronto up 1-0, then Rob Patterson followed with a solo home run in the second. Rich Butler and Patterson hit back-to-back sacrifice flies in the third, and Sean Travers� RBI-single in the fourth inning completed the scoring. For Barrie Ryan Davis had an RBI-single in the third while Mark Raven stroked an RBI-double in the fourth. Barrie did threaten in the eight but Rob Butler gunned down David Latour at the plate to snuff out any possible rally. Mike Hallman took the loss, allowing five earned runs on six hits over five and two-thirds innings. He walked five and struck out none. The Maple Leafs can complete the sweep with a win in Barrie Saturday afternoon.

Hamilton starter Justin Bartkiewicz silenced the Guelph bats for seven innings as the Cardinals took a 2-0 series lead with Wednesday night�s 3-1 home victory. Bartkiewicz gave up just one hit while striking out five and walking two. Sean Allen threw a scoreless eighth then Bill Hawkins came on in the ninth. Hawkins gave up a run, but still earned the save. Jerrod Haase led the Cardinals attack with a solo home run in the second and an RBI groundout in the fourth. Shayne Ridley added an RBI-single in the sixth inning for Hamilton. The Royals only run was scored by Jason Borghese on an RBI-groundout by Kevin Treichel. Casey Cooper took the loss, giving up three earned runs on seven hits in seven innings. Game four is set for Friday night in Hamilton.
