Intercounty Baseball Results - Thursday May 27

Hamilton Cardinals 7, London Majors 5

In London, Shayne Ridley smacked a run-scoring double in a five-run eighth inning that helped the Hamilton Cardinals to a 7-5 win over the London Majors in one of three games in the Intercounty Baseball League on Thursday.

Bret Lawson (1-0) gave up three runs and four hits while striking out nine batters and walking five in seven innings. Mark McDonald picked up the save after giving up two runs in two innings of relief.

Tom VanKasteren (0-1) was charged with the loss after giving up two runs - one earned - and four hits in six innings.

Pete Babcock had a pair of hits, including a double, for London.

Guelph Royals 4, Kitchener Panthers 2

In Kitchener, Kevin Hinton had a pair of hits and drove in two runs, including the game-winner in the third inning, to help the Guelph Royals double the Kitchener Panthers 4-2.

Ryan Armstrong (1-2) gave up two runs and six hits in six innings for the win. Kitchener loaded the bases in the ninth inning before Nathan Tami retired the final two batters for his second save of the season.

Luke Baker was three-for-five at the plate and Joel Scott (0-1) gave up four runs on 10 hits in six innings for Kitchener.

Toronto Maple Leafs 13, Stratford Storm 1

In Stratford, Rich Butler had four hits, including a home run, and drove in four runs to pace the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 13-1 win over the Stratford Storm.

Rob Butler also homered and drove in four runs while Kevin Foley belted four singles with an RBI and Danny Gibbons added three hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Dave Steffler (1-0) tossed five scoreless innings for the win.

Rick Ross (0-1) gave up seven runs - six earned - in four innings.

Matt Moir and Ben Yormak each had two hits and Brian Green drove in Stratford's run with a single in the seventh inning.
