Intercounty Baseball Results - Thursday July 1

Guelph Royals 8, Hamilton Cardinals 3

In Guelph, Jamie Pogue homered and drove in four runs to pace the Guelph Royals to an 8-3 win over the Hamilton Cardinals in one of four Canada Day matchups in the Intercounty Baseball League.

Kevin Hinton added a solo homer in the seventh inning for Guelph and junior pitcher Ryan Pranger (1-0) tossed five strong innings, giving up three runs and four hits.

Brett Lawson (3-1) allowed six runs on five hits in two innings and Mark McDonald clubbed a three-run homer in the fourth inning.

Barrie Baycats 11, Kitchener Panthers 9

In Kitchener, David Latour smashed a three-run home run in the seventh inning to power the Barrie Baycats to an 11-9 win over the Kitchener Panthers.

Adwin Springer hit a two-run homer and Alex Borgo added a solo shot for Barrie.

Brad Bissell (2-1) allowed five runs and four hits in six innings for the win and Ian Holman finished the game for his first save.

Chris Dickie launched a solo homer in the second inning and Brian Carter added a three-run drive in the ninth. Craig Stroh hit a bases-clearing triple in the third inning.

In London, Alex Blackburn singled home the game's only run to lift the London Majors to a 1-0 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first game of a doubleheader on Thursday.

Kevin Virtue (2-4) retired the final batter in the seventh inning to earn the win after starter Adam Gautreau went 6 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out three batters.

Russ Williams (2-1) allowed one run and two hits across six plus innings.

Steve Condotta hit a two-run single in the sixth inning that helped Toronto double London 6-3 in the second game.

Damon Topolie had two hits and scored the winning run and Jess Robertson doubled in the win.

Former London pitcher Rob Robinson (1-0) allowed three runs and 5 2/3 innings while striking out seven batters for the win. Mike Phinney worked a scoreless inning of relief for the save.

Steve Charles was two-for-three with an RBI for London and Tom VanKasteren (0-5) gave up four runs - two earned - and five hits in five innings.

In Stratford, Darryl Reid belted a two-run homer in the seventh inning to lift the Oshawa Dodgers to a 4-3 win in the first game of a doubleheader against the Stratford Storm.

Mick Kurhan doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Matt Tosoni (2-1) allowed three runs and seven hits in a complete-game effort for the win.

Fielding Lewis (0-1) worked one inning of relief, giving up the winning run, after starter Kevin McKnight allowed two runs and nine hits in six innings.

Pedro Ozuno tripled and drove in a run for Stratford.

Matt Moyer hit a three-run homer that helped Stratford to a 9-3 win in the second game.

Yoel Fernandez (1-3) worked the complete game, giving up three runs and eight hits.

Josh Braby had two hits, including a triple, and drove in a pair of runs.

Kurhan hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for Oshawa and Adam Clarke (1-4) was tagged for six runs and eight hits in five innings.
