Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Brantford Red Sox 2

In Toronto, Nildo Puertas belted a two-run homer in the fourth inning that helped the Maple Leafs double the Brantford Red Sox 4-2 in the Intercounty Baseball League on Wednesday.

Shayne Ridley had a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the fourth inning. Damon Topolie and Carl Embro each added two hits in the win.

Dave Steffler (1-0) allowed two runs - one earned - and seven hits in five innings for the win. Doug Dimma finished the game with 2 1/3 innings of shutout relief for his second save.

Stefan Strecker (0-1) allowed four runs on six hits in three innings in the loss. Dan Baribeau drove in one of two runs by Brantford in the third inning.
