Brantford Red Sox 7, Hamilton Thunderbirds 5
In Hamilton, Raul Borjas belted a two-run homer in the fifth inning that helped the Brantford Red Sox to a 7-5 win over the Thunderbirds in the Intercounty Baseball League on Friday.
Steve Charles singled in the eighth inning and then scored the winning run after three wild pitches by Hamilton reliever Ivan Rusova. Tyler Burnell added a pair of hits, including a double, and scored two runs in the win.
Stefan Strecker (1-1) gave up five runs - three earned - and 10 hits in eight innings before Mark Ferguson retired the side in the ninth for his first save.
Joe Thomas (0-1) took the loss after giving up five runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. Rusova allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Justin Wendt had three singles and drove in three runs for
Hamilton, which suffered its first loss of the season.
