Brantford Red Sox 9, Hamilton Thunderbirds 4

In Brantford, Steve Charles smacked his first home run of the season to help the Brantford Red Sox to a 9-4 win over the Hamilton Thunderbirds in one of two games in the Intercounty Baseball League on Friday.

Newcomer Jason Trim had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored three runs for Brantford and Adam Vella added a pair of hits and scored a run in the win.

Elliot Love (1-0) tossed 3 1/3 innings of hitless relief for the win after starter Tom Boleska allowed four runs - one earned - in 5 2/3 innings.

Andrew Schwalm (0-2) allowed four runs - three earned - and three hits in 2 1/3 innings and Jeff McGinn homered for Hamilton.

In London, Jeff Pietraszko had a pair of hits, including a three-run home run that paced the Kitchener Panthers to a 9-3 win over the London Majors.

John Morbey (1-2) allowed three runs - two earned - and seven hits while striking out four batters in six innings for the win.

Luke Baker had a pair of hits and drove in three runs, including the game-winner with a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

Kirk Martin (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up nine runs and 11 hits in 4 2/3 innings.
