Majors announce additions to ownership and coaching staff
London, ON: At a press conference today the London Majors Baseball team announced that ex-Major Roop Chanderdat has become a co-owner in the team, and will be assuming the role of interim General Manager with the Majors effective immediately.
The London Majors are experiencing tremendous growth at this time, which made it appropriate for the ownership of the team to expand as well, says team owner and President Scott Dart. Our goal is to continue to increase the caliber of performance as well as the profile of the team in the community, and that means an increase in workload. Having Roop available to direct the team with me will be a tremendous benefit.
Born in Guyana, South America, Roop Chanderdat moved to London with his family when he was 10. He played minor baseball in London with the Eager Beaver and South London baseball associations. He has played in the Intercounty Baseball League for 11 seasons, 6 of which were with the London Majors. For the past 11 years he has owned and operated an industrial hygiene, health & safety and environmental consulting firm in London (www.roopc.com). His community involvement includes his role as Board Chair for The London Urban Services Organization (LUSO), a not-for-profit multicultural community center dedicated to promoting inclusiveness, well being, and the prosperity of the London Community through the provision of programs and services for children, youth, families, and seniors of diverse backgrounds.
Im very excited to be able to help continue building on the deep tradition of Majors Baseball in the London community. This is an exciting day for me and my family, says Chanderdat, who is married to wife Cindy and has a 16 month-old daughter, Neela. Throughout the years my parents, Arnold & Teematie, have been tremendously supportive of my involvement in baseball, and I can honestly say that I wouldnt be here today if it wasnt for their support and many sacrifices over the years. I cant thank them enough.
Previous General Manager Shawn Gillespie recently stepped down from that role to pursue an ownership opportunity with the Stratford Storm. Over the next few weeks we will identify what roles need to be filled in the coaching and management staff for the team. In the interim I will be handling management of the Majors including player recruitment and development for the 2006 season, says Chanderdat.
Also announced at todays press conference was the appointment of Londoner Scott Davis as Assistant General Manager in charge of the new London Majors Junior Inter-County Baseball team. In my role as interim General Manager I will be providing direction to Scott Davis, who will be in charge of all aspects of getting the new Junior team up and running, says Chanderdat. We are still in the approval stages with the league for this team but we are optimistic that they will support us in our goal of providing a further development opportunity for baseball players in London.
Davis is a Level 3 NCCP Baseball Coach who has a true love of the game. He has actively coached baseball for 13 years, while serving on a number of local boards in capacities up to and including President. Having completed his Level 3 National Coaches Certification Program Theory component at Mohawk College, his goal is to receive his teaching certification in order to teach Level 1 NCCP coaching at local clinics. He has coached a total of 429 official games with an overall record of 285 Wins - 120 Losses - 24 Ties and a 664 Win Percentage, with several District and Provincial Championships under his belt.
Were really thrilled to have Scott Davis joining our team, says Scott Dart. His management and coaching experience are valuable assets and will help us with our goal of developing a solid infrastructure for the teams. By creating a solid organization with a dynamic corporate culture, we will have strong, professional teams from top to bottom.
