IBL Announces MVP, Rookie of the Year and All-Star Teams

The Intercounty Baseball League today announced the Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year and All-Star Teams for the 2006 season.

Rawlings IBL Player of the Year Award - Jordan Lundberg, Barrie Baycats (C).

Lundberg follows Ryan Spataro as consecutive winners of the MVP Award from the Barrie Baycats. Lundberg led the IBL with 12 home runs and 40 RBI while finishing seventh with a .341 batting average in 35 games. He was also among the league leaders with 34 runs scored. Lundberg collected 28 points in the voting, including five first-place votes while Brad McElroy of the London Majors was runner-up with 12 points and Frankie Hare of the Guelph Royals was third in the voting with 11 points. Lundberg will receive a custom glove from Rawlings.

IBL Rookie of the Year/BRIAN KERR MEMORIAL TROPHY - Rudy Vallejos, London Majors (OF)

Vallejos enjoyed a productive first season in the IBL, hitting .304 with two homers and 41 RBI. The Ottawa native also hit five doubles, scored 28 runs and was fourth in the league with 19 stolen bases in 30 games. Vallejos collected 21 points in the voting, including three first-place votes while Toronto Maple Leafs' pitcher Mike Lynch was second with 13 points and Mike Roeder of the Kitchener Panthers was third with 11 points.

2006 Intercounty Baseball League All-Star Teams

The All-Star teams were selected by the field managers of each club on a five-three point system. Clubs were not allowed to vote for their own players.
